I Love My 5 Kids

Tonight I ran across the first discrimination I have encountered since adopting Lacey. I wrote out a whole post about it and then decided it wasn't worth my time. I guess it was just therapy to write it down and then erase it. I think the discrimination was more geared toward us having 5 kids than it was about adopting her. Wow, is 5 kids really that many? I don't think so and if I was younger I'd have or adopt a bunch more! I feel so much better now! By the way, the above picture is kind of silly and was taken at a luau at our church. However, I believe it's our first family picture!

My stockpiled answer: That's private for our family. I'm surprised you were comfortable asking that. 9 times out of 10 that nips it in the bud for me. Vent away. Sometimes reading about what other people experience helps us prepare for the problems we will face in the future.

I'm sorry to hear that. People just cannot keep from judging and it really is ridiculous! 5 kids is a perfectly normal number. We are only a generation away from our big families (I was one of 7 kids) and our parents big families before us. Suddenly some people have a problem with that? Oh well, I'm glad you were able to vent in your original unposted post! :) We support you fully!

Sorry to hear that you had such an encounter. I agree with Sarah - generic answers work most of the time. I was one of four children in our family (my grandmother was one of six) and we were always told "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". I tell my children the same thing, explaining that it could hurt someone's feelings. Good advice my Grandmother used to say.

Nice Family Photo!! Looks good, not silly!!!

What a handsome family. SO glad to hear you are all adjusting well. Get ready for the comments. We have been home three years with my daughter and just when I forget about rude comments someone throws one out. She is really starting to get annoyed at age four. I can see the eyes start to roll and that bothers ne me more than anything.
You will get better and better with the comebacks. Hope you had a great Fathers Day! Victoria
